What is Agility and How is it Improved?

Agility is the ability to move, change direction and position the body quickly and effectively while under control. While vertical jump grabs headlines (think slam-dunk competitions), good athletes know that great agility provides that quick first-step that separates the ‘always wins’ from the “also-rans”.

To improve agility, you need to be able to:

1.  Decelerate rapidly so that you can change direction quickly.

2.  Maintain balance so that you can change direction efficiently

3.  Push off forcefully and rapidly from the ground in any direction.

As the last critical link in the kinetic chain, improved foot and ankle strength and stability are going to allow you decelerate faster, change direction more effectively, and explode in a new direction.
